Question by Jennifer A: consolidating student loans?
Can you consolidate student loans that were taken out for two different people? I would like to combine my loans with my husband’s- is that possible?
Also, does anyone have suggestions on reputable agencies to consolidate your loans with? I have received mailings from Nelnet and Sallie Mae- does anyone know anything about either?
What is a good interest rate to accept for consolidation?

Yes, it is called spousal consolidation. However, some consolidating companies, i.e. Nelnet, will no longer combines spousal loans.
Check out companies like Student Loan Xpress or the Student Assistance Foundation. These companies allow spouses to consolidate your loans. Perhaps even Sallie Mae. My interest rate is 4.25%, actually it’s 4% because I have the loan automatically deducted from my account every month now. However I consolidated before July 1, 2006. So rates probably have gone up. The cap for student loan interest rates is 8% but that’s pretty high when you’re talking thousands of dollars. Shoot for the 5% or lower range when searching for your consolidation.

PublicTestimony against Media Consolidation, Seattle (3)

The commissioners of the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) are moving toward a consolidation of American Media. That means that a one big media company can own all newspapers, radio, and TV stations in one community, controlling all the news, media, and entertainment, and it’s content. This may be decided in December 2007. Several hearings were held with short notice. The one in Seattle on November 9, 2007 was set up with only 5 days notice. Still, over 1000 people attended. Over 275 people signed up for public testimony, which went on past 1 am. Each person was allowed up to 2 minutes. This and other uploaded videos are their testimony. (Not covered by the big media outlets) — this is one of the few places where you can hear their non-censored views.
